How To Fix A Clogged Drain

Waking up to a clogged drain is never a fun thought to add on the to do list for the day. Luckily, there are so many DIY tips and tricks on how to get your clogged drain fixed quickly with easy steps. Even if it is your first time, you can find the confidence to tackle the task yourself or simply have a professional plumber takeover if you have a busy schedule or have a serious drain issue. Because let’s face it, we all want to lather, rinse, repeat!

Plunger Method

We all have a plunger somewhere in the corner beside the toilet. It may require some arm work, but nothing a plunger cannot take care of. Did you know that you can also use the plunger on sinks? Be sure to sanitize before and after use with a disinfectant product by soaking it for at least five minutes and then wiping clean.

Drain Snake Trick

The old but handy drain snake trick is often used for clogged bathtubs which usually accumulate with human hair and shampoo products overtime. All you need is a wired hanger or a special clog snake tool that you can find at your local hardware store or online. Simply adjust the wire (if using a hanger) to make a line with a slight curve at the end and insert down the drain as much as possible. You can then swivel the wire a few times and firmy pull up and see all the gunk magically pull away.

Home Solution

This easy DIY solution requires two natural ingredients you already have sitting in your cupboard: baking soda and vinegar. No need for harsh chemicals! You will first need to boil water and add the boiling water down the drain. This will help loosen any heavy residue. Next, you will mix equal parts of baking soda and vinegar (about half a cup) into a bowl and then pour down the drain. The fizziness from the solution will also help dissolve the residue. Wait for ten minutes for the solution to seep in and then add boiling water again to flush down the remains. Your drain will thank you as it should flow much more smoothly with repeated maintenance when needed. The added bonus? You disinfected without even realizing it along the way.

Keep your drains happy by placing drain stoppers throughout your entire home. They will help catch any debris and safeguard your pipes from future disasters. But when all else fails, it is time to turn to the professionals!
